What a good question. I’ve spent most of the day alternating between irritable and depressed, it’s nice to feel a bit of vitriol flowing.
We’re probably going to Iran. We might have ended up there anyway, regardless of who won. Given GW’s track record for winning friends and influencing people, we’re probably going to Iran alone.
We’re probably going deeper into debt. Sure, most reasonable people agree at this point that the deficit is too high and we either need to cut spending or raise taxes or both. So what? The Bush administration has shown itself to be really, really good at ignoring reasonable people. Somehow I doubt winning an election will change that.
We’re definitely not going into the lab. We wouldn’t want to spend any time with those godless heathens who want to save people’s lives with abandoned embryos.
I doubt we’re going anywhere near Kyoto. The jerks whining about the polar ice caps are probably godless heathens too.
To summarize, we don’t GO anywhere. We get dragged along kicking and screaming as the conservative half of the nation digs its head even farther into the sand.

I suggest everyone go out and buy a four year supply of Vaseline. Stocks will be scarce very soon. You’re going to need it.

Greg Knauss argues–and I agree–that what we need is dispassion and reason.

  • Brian says: seems to be unavailable. I haven’t been able to get to it for the past two days. All-knowing Google, however, has cached his document. You can read it here.
It’s an interesting piece. My first reaction is that he’s confused passionate argument with “the abandonment of the brain in favor of the gut.” Passion has a legitimate place not only in politics but also in policy.

What’s this?
